Bugs, Bees and Butterflies

Come and join us for a journey through the undergrowth at the bottom of the garden, discovering those creepy crawlies we either love or loathe! Stare in wonder at The Waltzing Cat as she dances at The Ugly Bug Ball, and watch The Flight of the Bumble Bee, but beware of The Wasps. See the grace and splendour of The Dragonfly, The Grasshopper’s Dance and the Moths and Butterflies, but keep an eye out for the Tarantella for Tarantulas and Spiderman.
Why not come dressed as a creepy crawly or beautiful butterfly?

The programme also includes La Cucaracha, the Marchpast of the Kitchen Utensils, the Jasmine Flower and the Hansom Cab.

Details of a concert by the Sheffield Lydian Singers at Norton
Friday 9th May, 7.30pm
Norton Church S8 8JQ

There's some local content: not just Percy Snowdon's folk song arrangements (which have been performed in several parts of the world), but also some modern song arrangements by the late John Earwaker, who founded the choir.
Norton is at the southern edge of the city, and nearer to Coal Aston than to the city centre. Norton Church is on Norton Lane: not the westerly part that runs directly parallel to Bochum Parkway, but at the bend where the almost-northerly stretch meets the almost-easterly. There is a small loop Norton Church Road, but if you can't find parking there or on the Lane, there should be plenty enough on Matthews Lane off Hemsworth Road - a better bet for many, depending on where you start from. The whole road layout seems to be designed to puzzle strangers, but really it's easy enough if you look at the map: Google Maps using S8 8JQ is pretty helpful. I can't comment on bus routes. If you know where to find the Highland cattle in Graves Park, it's a short walk from there.

Cousin John - a Musical by John Earwaker

PERFORMANCE:10th & 11th June 2008 - Montgomery Theatre, Sheffield - director Andy Thomas.

Cousin John is a full-length musical about the life of John the Baptist. A cast of 12 is supplemented by choruses of adults (SATB) and children. The orchestration is for flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, percussion, keyboard and string quintet, though performance with keyboard only would be possible. The show explores John Earwaker's interesting insights into John the Baptist and other characters in the story, and can hold the interest regardless of religious persuasion.
